Chinese television has recorded the stay in Calella of a group of Chinese triathletes who will take part in the IRONMAN in October.

This weekend Calella has been more present than ever in China thanks to IRONMAN. Taking advantage of the celebration of the traditional IRONMAN 70.3, the Catalan Tourism Agency has programmed a press trip promoting the entire offer of the city as a sports tourism destination.

Over the weekend, the director of the Promotion Center of the Catalan Tourism Agency in China, Mr. Antoni Li and the journalists, Mrs. Li Hanyuan and Ms. Weng Xiaomeng visited our city with the aim of getting to know first-hand the offer and details of the renowned IRONMAN triathlon.

Both journalists carried out their professional work on the Sports Channel of Central China Television (CCTV-5) and this was their first stay in Calella, although they already had a return date: October 1st coinciding with IRONMAN, and it is expected that a group of Chinese triathletes will take part in the October IRONMAN. This will be covered by The ‘Moments Top’ programme which provides daily coverage for these triathletes with the aim of publicizing their experience in Calella.

and it is expected that a group of Chinese triathletes participate in the The activities organized in Calella as host city which began with a presentation at the Calella Lighthouse on Friday, May 19th where they were received by Councilor Jordi Sitjà, Territorial Councillor of the Town Hall of Calella, who explained the main assets of our city in relation to the segment of sports tourism with special emphasis on the designation of Calella as a ‘European Sports Village, 2016’. Afterwards, the guests were able to visit some of the main sports facilities in the city accompanied by the town hall sports and tourism technicians.

During the celebration of the race, the Chinese television interviewed the Mayor of Calella, Montserrat Candini, who highlighted the importance of IRONMAN for our city, and some of the triathletes with the aim of capturing first-hand the ‘experience of the participants in Calella. In the words of the Mayor: The “IRONMAN has three main elements: Sport and everything that its values represent; the inter-culturality and the image of a cosmopolitan city that it projects, and the economy and the full impact of the sports stays and its hospitality industry.”

Since 2015, the People’s Republic of China has celebrated 5 IRONMAN races;

the well-known Chinese real estate group Wanda has acquired the renowned IRONMAN brand. Currently, China has 5 races linked to the brand: Chongqing, Hefei, Xiamen, Liuzhou and Qujing.

20 national and international open channels

China Central Television is the public television group in the People’s Republic of China and one of the largest communications companies in Asia. CCVTV services include 20 national and international channels, which can be tuned in open by cable, satellite and online. The main station is the generalist CCTV-1, founded on September 2nd, 1958, which broadcasts programmes based on fiction, news and entertainment. In turn, there are other thematic channels with economic, cultural and sports programmes, and international versions in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.
