The initiative of Calella City Council will allow companies to use the town’s sports facilities as a test bench.
The initiative of the Calella City Council impulses innovation in the sports sector, making the towns sports facilities a testing ground for those companies that want to validate their products and services in a real environment.
Calella counts with over 40 sports facilities and is one of the main venues in Catalonia for holding high-level competitions, including the Barcelona-Maresme Coast Half Marathon and the Barcelona Ironman.
Thanks to this initiative, the municipality of the Maresme aims to achieve an international reputation as a ‘certified tester’ of sports solutions. The Calella Sport City Lab is also expected to contribute to the economic growth of the municipality and generate direct employment as a result of the creation of spin-off companies and others with a technology base.
The Calella Sport City Lab is part of the Mataró-Maresme Territorial Specialization and Competitiveness Project (PECT), launched in May 2018 and which also includes the Reimagine Textile strategy, led by Eurecat and the TecnoCampus of Mataró. The Mataró-Maresme PECT is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) Catalonia 2014-2020.
The SmartCatalonia Laboratory is a project of the Secretariat for Digital Policies of the Generalitat de Catalunya that aims to promote the application of intelligent solutions in real environments in order to solve municipal challenges.
